San Diego Gas Electric Power Outage Heat Wave

SDG&E Warns of Potential Power Outages Amid Heat Wave

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has issued a warning to customers of potential power outages due to the ongoing heat wave.

With temperatures expected to reach triple digits in the coming days, SDG&E is urging customers to conserve energy to reduce the risk of outages.

The utility is asking customers to take the following steps to conserve energy:

  • Set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher.
  • Use fans to circulate air.
  • Close blinds and curtains during the day.
  • Avoid using major appliances during peak hours (3 p.m. - 9 p.m.).
  • Turn off lights when leaving a room.

SDG&E is also asking customers to be prepared for the possibility of power outages by having a plan in place.

This plan should include:

  • A battery-powered radio for updates.
  • Flashlights and extra batteries.
  • A first-aid kit.
  • Non-perishable food and water.
  • A list of emergency contacts.

SDG&E is taking steps to address the increased demand for energy, including bringing online additional power plants and bringing in crews from other areas to assist with repairs.

However, the utility is urging customers to do their part to conserve energy and reduce the risk of outages.
